Stats

Sophie girl had her 1 year check up this morning.  I try to schedule these visits when Kinley is in school.  Today she caught on though.  She asked where we were going after I dropped her off.  I said to Sophie's check up.  "Is she getting shots?" with her hands covering her mouth.  "Yes, baby.  She is.  They keep her healthy."  "Will I get shots when I go for my four-year-old check up?" ... Sigh.  That ought to be fun.
Back to Sophie.
She weighed 19.8 lbs and was 29 inches long.  We had an exciting round of peek a boo while waiting for our turn and an entire snack cup full of bunnies.  Monday mornings at a doctor's office are no fun, but you couldn't tell it from Sophie girl.
This is the face she gave Dr. Youngblood when she turned on her otoscope (I think that's what the thing is called.)
I mean, I know I love her.   And you guys all love her.  But I'm pretty sure today Dr. Youngblood loved her too.  What better way to start your morning than this cutie's cheese face.  The doctor had to literally stop what she was doing to finish her fit of giggles.  It was ridiculously cute.
This picture is from last night.  She was apparently really excited to pose in front of her shelf full of birthday books.  Well it was full until Kinley stole the stack of Golden Books from the cube on the right side.  Those could be found here:
Kinley made them a little nook this afternoon and proceeded to "read" the books to Sophie.  And yes I would be the crazy lady that put a white sofa in the playroom.  So far so good though.  And it made it possible to add purple pillows for Kinley's aesthetic taste.
Seriously such sweetness.  Love these girls!  More photos of the last few weeks over on Picasa.

A Book Party

Our house is covered in toys.  We used to have a playroom upstairs with my sewing things and one downstairs in the keeping room.  After Christmas we rearranged all the rooms, and now all the toys belong in the one playroom.  It's out of control.  These two kiddos have at least one of every toy you could imagine.
With that in mind when I spotted this baby shower theme I decided despite the flack I would catch from our family members Sophie girl was having a Book Birthday Party.
It's also kind of nice because Kinley has given up every toy and outfit she ever owned to her sister.  It's amazing how quickly baby toys that have been tossed aside for months/years can become interesting again as soon as you have to pass them down to younger siblings.  This way both girls will have their very own libraries. You never really outgrow books.
Sophie really loves books too.
Since I decided months ago on the theme, I've been working here and there on all the preparations.  Which is good because nothing went quite as planned Friday and Saturday this week.  Including finding out at the last minute Publix would not sell me a smash cake for Sophie and a pretty nasty head, neck and back injury brought on by my refrigerator.  (I am seriously the world's biggest klutz.)
I managed to pull together a cake out of supplies in my pantry.  I don't make cakes.  I can't frost them.  But Sophie girl had a cake.  With M&M's which I belatedly realized just might be a choking hazard.  Good times!
The cupcakes Publix did make with added Golden Book decorations.
I even made cake pops with the leftover cake.  Andy and I made balloon animals the night before when all I could do was lay in bed after banging my head.
We had labels for the books, so Sophie will always know where each of her books came from.
Paper flowers and photo garland:
I almost couldn't do it.
I...CUT...UP...BOOKS...to make book worm favors.  At least they were the free Chick-fil-A kids meal ones that Sophie had already chewed on the corners of.  Still it was hard.
Book worms.
Okay photo overload.  Will be back with the Cake and Presents.

Let them eat Cake

And open presents.
She's really excited about reading.  :)
Blowing kisses to say thanks for all her gifts:
All ready for her cake.  Loves her balloons:
And her cake:
Really liked the M&M's
And was very upset when her Mama took them away:
But she quickly got back to business:

You want me to stop eating for photos!?!
Nope this is better.  Help eating the cake:
All that was left:
As if that weren't enough photos you can see more over here.
Thankfully we stuck with family for this party, and they don't mind catching me still in my pj's fifteen minutes pre-party...or having an S.O.S. pad thrown at them and told to scrub the sink...or tape and cupcake wrappers.  It was an insane, crazy, fun day.  Now to get ready to do it all over again in three weeks.

Happy 1st Birthday, Sophie!

Dear Sweet Sophie,
You get sweeter every day.  You have learned to blow kisses and can give real (wet) kisses.  You say MMM, MMM, MMM when you give hugs just like your sister.  Your newest favorite food is raspberries.  You have just started to try to say real words a lot.  You have the cutest little chuckle...all the time.  You still have the squishiest cheeks and thighs I've ever seen.  And everyone just loves you to pieces.  Even strangers in stores.  It is a blessing to watch you learn and grow each and every day.

Guilty

When Kinley came in to our room this morning she had a funny (guilty) look on her face.  I asked her what was wrong.  She replies with "I didn't take a rest.  I snuck out while everyone was sleeping and got my leappad.  Then I played in bed."  At first I am confused.  Surely not.  Maybe she just means this morning.  Like she got up too early and thinks it was night time.  I thought I heard a door at 6.  I head to her room and sure enough, the leappad is hiding under her pillow.  Plus some farm animals and a felt barn.  (Those were my favorite toys growing up.  We could spend hours playing "Animals" at my granny's house.)  Again I'm thinking she just meant this morning.  She sticks with her story though that it was during the night, and she didn't rest.  Then we get in the car to head to an appointment, and she nearly falls asleep.  At noon.  Here it is, nap time, and she's actually napping.  She must have been telling the truth.  That child is honest to a fault like her mother.  The Leappad will now be residing on the mantle while she's supposed to be sleeping.

Here's my confession of the day:
I had all her hair chopped off.
It is apparently seasonal with me.  Last year's cut on Feb, 22nd.
After combing a huge chunk of it out Monday morning that was matted with God only knows what type of food, I had to do something.

Mini Tennis

Andy may have some hope with these girls following in his footsteps:
Kinley testing out Andy's Valentine in her rain boots and Minnie Mouse jammie pants:
And Sophie enjoying the show:
Tennis ball in hand.  She loves those things.  She will hunt them down.

Happy Valentine's Day

The things I love:
I love that Miss Kin can sit for hours crafting, coloring, painting.  She helped cut out and make the banner.  We're practicing for their Birthday decorations.
She painted her school friends' Valentines:
And some for Nana, Papa, and Granny.  Sophie even got in on the action:
Yep.  Sophie's wearing a Las Vegas shirt as an art smock.  LOL!  And that paper quickly hit the floor.  Good thing we buy washable paint.  I found the ideas for painting here and here.  The heart stamps were really cool.  The finger painting was close to an epic fail however.

I love the way Sophie girl has learned to shake her head, and her entire upper body, no.
(I'm documenting it while I still think it's cute!)

And I love that we bought our last can of formula yesterday!

I love that Andy helped watch the kids and clean the house, so that I could sew this weekend.  Kinley got a Valentine's Day skirt to wear to her school party.  Once I could convince her to put it on Friday afternoon to see if it fit, I couldn't get it off of her until Saturday afternoon.  I made it in 30 minutes.  It was a win-win.  I may never buy a skirt again.
Don't mind the wrinkles from sleeping in the skirt or the purple rocket ship on her head.  I still haven't sewn up the hole where I stuffed it during the middle of the night Christmas Eve/Christmas day.  Also avert your eyes from my fabric shelf.
The most impressive sewing though was Sophie's birthday outfit.  I finished it a full 2 weeks early.  I'm pretty sure that's the least procrastination I've ever done.
Excuse the cell phone photos.  My new phone has completely ruined my relationship with my real camera.
One more of our sweet girls that we love so very much.
Now if only that beautiful weather I love from when this photo was taken a few weeks ago could return...

All I Want for Christmas

Bear with me.  I know it's February, and I'm posting about Christmas.  Our two kiddos both received some belated Christmas gifts that were never acknowledged.
Sophie got her two front teeth:

And Kinley finally got her fish:
Or 8 fish and 2 snails.  That way it's less noticeable when one...or two kick the bucket.  Which may have already happened.  Those plants and rocks are less pink and more purple in real life.
Here snails are named Federer and Rock.  Federer is the tan one you can see in this photo.  Rock was tiny when we first got him.  And hid in the rocks.

Happy Groundhog Day!

I'm hoping Kinley's "Grandpa Groundhog" doesn't see his shadow.

For the record

Kinley has worn purple every day since Christmas.  I had to post this photo as proof that she does in fact have non-purple clothes.  (It does not show that she is in fact purple clad on her feet!)
We finally made it to Berry Mango's today.  It's a new-ish yogurt bar that we are likely the last people living in McDonough to visit.  Kinley's concoction: Strawberry and Chocolate yogurt with marshmallows, purple conversation hearts, and purple sprinkles.  There were cherries too, but one of those didn't even make it to the scale to be paid for and the second one definitely didn't make it to the table.
We will return for sure.  It was delicious!
