My New Vintage Machine

Here she is: She's a Necchi Supernova Ultra, made in the late 50's or early 60's in Italy.Yes she is a she. Can't you tell since she's pink or blush and cream. She came with her own table.

Lots of things I know nothing about like cams,
And more cams, plus lots of different attachments and feet.

At least she still had these so I can teach myself how to use her.

Baking with Kinley

Can result in:
a) forgetting to add the flour to the brownie batter
b) having the kitchen covered in chocolate
c) having the kitchen covered in broken glass and pepper
d) all of the above

Take your best guess!

I did not have the opportunity to photograph tonight's happenings. Occasionally I do put safety first. ;)

Success!

It only took sitting her on the counter and giving her bubbles, but we got two pig tails in... for a minute at least.

Finally, a pony tail!

Can you even see that wispy little thing up there? It's there I promise. I was trying for two little ones on either side but Miss Kin was having nothing of it.
Apparently she thought I said Monkey tail...I have removed her cutie patootie no less than 15 times in half an hour before finally caving and taking a picture of it. Let me just say I now know why they make the safety legs on stoves.

It's here!

Sorry non-sewing readers, it won't be exciting to you. I finally caved to my curiosity and ordered a back issue of Ottobre design magazine, and it came today. I belong to a sewing forum, Sewing Mamas, and I spend a lot of time looking at others creations. Many of them use Ottobre for patterns, especially ones using knits. Since I've gotten my serger, I've decided to move on to working with knits. This is the issue I chose, #4/2004. It's supposedly best for basics like tees and leggings etc. I'd really like to make some for Kinley this fall/winter since I went all last year searching for a solid brown long sleeve shirt for her and never found one. Wish me luck!
Too bad no one was here to photograph me trying to measure her to figure out her sizing. Now that would have kept you non-sewers interested!

The Drew has returned...

Kinley and her mommy couldn't be any happier to have him back!!!
And where was he?He visited 8 states, a little over 2,000 miles in 4 days, about 8 tanks of gas, 32 hours of riding time and one flat tire...

On this:You can see his whole journey here.

Yes he's crazy, but we sure do love him!

Handmade birthday gifts

June, July and August are big birthday months for the Bell family. Every child in the extended family has a birthday during these months. It's crazy! I've been hoarding some Thomas the Train fabric to make something for Nate and Merritt and decided their birthdays would be a perfect opportunity. I already posted pics of Nate's pj set and Merritt received one just like it.

Here's the best pic I could get of Merritt in his while he was over the other day. A true "action" shot as he and Kinley are running circles around the house.
He must have liked them because he refused to take them off even though I was just trying them on him to see if the waistband fit and needed to finish it. He also insisted to his mommy when she came to pick him up that they were real pants not just pj's.
I couldn't make them something and not make Ashlee and Devin's gifts too, so they got UGA themed outfits. Please forgive the terrible photos of these things. I had stayed up till midnight and gotten up at 5am to finish these. I wasn't thinking clearly at this point. ;)

A Lazy Days Skirt for Ashlee with a tank from Target.
A pillowcase style top paired with at skirt from Target. It has the same black and white dot ribbon as the skirt above in the ties at the shoulder, but you totally can't see it. Maybe Kevin will send me some pics of the girls in them.
Emma Grace and Corbin also have summer b-days, and I made up a couple of things for them.
I found some peacockish fabric at Hobby Lobby months ago and made a dress for Emma that I apparently never photographed. Then I found this peacock fabric at Scarlet Thread that was way better, so she got a top out of it like Kinley's UGA top.Corbin got a romper to wear around the house made out of the same Thomas fabric. His dad is train obsessed so I'm assuming he will be one day too.I say it's for around the house because I tried a lot of new to me techniques, and it is far from perfect. I can't imagine sewing for boys all the time. This thing was a challenge! A collar, button facings, button holes, buttons and sleeves...
And here's why Miss Kin has her ears pierced:
